Four-star Penn State football target Duke Watson de-commits from Georgia Tech, is back on the market for the Nittany Lions
This morning, Duke Watson officially announced his de-commitment from Georgia Tech. This is disappointing news for the Yellow Jackets but a fantastic development for Penn State football, as they are currently considered the frontrunners in his newly reopened recruitment.
Duke Watson is a highly sought-after four-star running back from Mary Persons High School in Georgia, and he is a prime target for James Franklin’s recruiting efforts. Penn State has been actively pursuing recruits from Georgia, and securing Watson’s commitment would be a significant step forward for the Nittany Lions.
According to both the On3 Industry Rankings and the 247 Sports composite rankings, Duke Watson is a four-star running back. He is currently ranked as the 31st best running back in the 2024 class and is among the top 50 recruits in the state of Georgia.
The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) indicates that Penn State football recruiting has a nearly 60% chance of landing this highly coveted four-star running back. If the Nittany Lions succeed, it would mark their third commitment from a four-star running back in the 2024 recruiting cycle. It’s worth noting that Quinton Martin is listed as an “athlete,” which suggests he may be more adaptable in case of positional changes.
It’s also worth noting that the RPM favored Penn State back in March as well, and while it may not mean a commitment is coming, it definitely indicates some mutual interest between the two, which is always a good early sign.
