Heading into 2023, the talk of the town in State College is rising sophomore quarterback Drew Allar. Allar — a former No. 1 overall prospect in the 2022 class — is the Nittany Lions’ new quarterback after long-time starter Sean Clifford played his final game at Penn State in the 2023 Rose Bowl game.

Drew Allar, Penn State have a lot of hype in 2023

We are still months away from the 2023 Penn State football season; and already, there is plenty of hype surrounding Penn State’s program. In 2022, James Franklin and Co. proved that 2020 and 2021 were simply fluke seasons as his program bounced back with an 11-2 season and a Rose Bowl win.

Despite Penn State’s young team, the Nittany Lions still managed to finish No. 7 in the nation with a 35-21 win over No. 8 Utah. This fall, even bigger things are expected from Penn State; a Big Ten Championship, CFP berth, and more are not off the table. 11 wins feels like its the floor for this PSU squad, and at the helm, PSU will need Drew Allar to step up.

Drew Allar odds to win the Heisman

Vegas clearly thinks that he will be able to, as BetOnline gives Drew Allar 25/1 odds to win the Heisman Trophy. Allar also has the 10th-best odds on their list behind other notable names like Drake Maye (UNC), Caleb Williams (USC), and Bo Nix (Oregon). Far lower on the Heisman list is Penn State’s rising sophomore running back, Nick Singleton, who currently has 50/1 odds to win the Heisman.

If Drew Allar can thrive like many suspect he will next year, we could see Penn State’s second-ever Heisman Trophy winner. The Nittany Lions’ first Heisman winner was John Cappelletti, who won the award in 1973. Penn State football will likely get more out of Allar than it did out of Clifford — Allar has a larger frame, a better arm, and more consistency from what we’ve seen so far.

As the nation’s focus shifts from the 2022 season to 2023, Drew Allar and Co. have high expectations — now, it’s time to deliver.
