On Sunday, the 7th-seed Miami Dolphins (9-8) traveled to Buffalo, New York to face the 2nd-seed Buffalo Bills (13-3). At halftime, the Dolphins trailed the Bills, 20-17; however, Penn State football alum Mike Gesicki hauled in a touchdown pass to keep the game close.
Gesicki hauls in touchdown vs. Bills
Heading into today’s game, the Buffalo Bills were the only team in the NFL to not give up a touchdown pass to a tight end. Mike Gesicki is the first to accomplish the feat this season as he caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Dolphins’ backup quarterback Skylar Thompson. So far today Gesicki has two targets, two receptions, 15 yards, and one touchdown.
Penn State fans have seen this before
During Gesicki’s time at Penn State he hauled in at least one pass in 27-straight games, totaling 129 receptions total. Throughout his career Gesicki compiled nearly 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns throughout his four years in State College. Gesicki was also an instrumental part of the Nittany Lions’ 2016 Big Ten Championship team and its 2017 Fiesta Bowl team. Both teams won 11 games in a historic turnaround period for Penn State football.
Gesicki was a two-time All-American and All-Big Ten selection (2016 and 2017) and was a big part of the explosive Nittany Lion offense that included the likes of Trace McSorley and Saquon Barkley. During his senior season, the All-American ranked No. 3 in receptions, No. 4 in receiving touchdowns, and No. 5 in receiving yards among tight ends.
Now, Gesicki is making his alma mater proud as one of the top tight ends in the National Football League. Just as we saw during his time with Penn State football, Mike Gesicki is one of the best tight ends in the game and a difference-maker in any offense.
