Penn State wrestling has been in the thick of the hunt for the nation’s top prospect in three consecutive recruiting cycles. Now, Cael Sanderson and the Nittany Lions will be in the mix once again in 2027.
On Wednesday, Penn State made the top nine for Melvin Miller, the No. 1 recruit in the 2027 class. The Nittany Lions are included alongside NC State, Nebraska, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Pitt, Iowa, Missouri, and Arizona State
Miller just finished his sophomore season at Bishop McCort in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He is the brother and teammate of top 2026 prospect, Iowa commit Bo Bassett. He also shares the McCort wrestling room with Oklahoma State commit Jax Forrest.
Last season, Miller was ranked as the No. 3 wrestler in the country at 157 pounds according to FloWrestling, behind incoming Penn State freshman PJ Duke and Oklahoma State pledge Landon Robideau. He was the runner-up at May’s U20 World Team Trials challenge tournament, falling to Robideau in the finals. His other notable accolades include the 160-pound state title this spring and first place at Fargo and the Powerade Tournament in 2024.
Penn State wrestling continues to have the deepest roster in the nation. Fresh off their fourth consecutive national championship, the Nittany Lions are set to add top 2025 recruits Marcus Blaze and PJ Duke, as well as Japanese world champion Masanosuke Ono and Ohio State transfer Rocco Welsh.
