Beyond the team title chase, Cael Sanderson and Penn State wrestling will enter this season with plenty of individual National Championship contenders. The Nittany Lions have seven top-five ranked wrestlers at their respective weight classes, including No. 3 Beau Bartlett (141), No. 2 Shayne Van Ness (149), No. 5 Tyler Kasak (157), No. 1 Mitchell Mesenbrink (165), No. 2 Levi Haines (174), No. 1 Carter Starocci (184), and No. 1 Greg Kerkvliet (285).

The latest projection according to InterMat has Cael Sanderson’s team with 117.5 points at the 2025 NCAA Championships, which is 31.5 points ahead of second-place Iowa with 86. That, of course, doesn’t even factor in bonus points that would be scored by Penn State’s multiple championship contenders throughout the tournament.

The current projection doesn’t look like it’s close to last year’s record-breaking team, but if Luke Lilledahl (125), Braeden Davis/Aaron Nagao (133), and Josh Barr (197) all rise in the rankings, challenging the record could once again be a possibility.
