Penn State wrestling scored 24 points and jumped out to a 8.5 point lead in the opening session of the NCAA Championships. But as we await the start of Thursday evening’s second round, we learned a pair of Nittany Lion wrestlers are planning to leave the program.

Redshirt sophomore 157-pounder Alex Facundo and redshirt junior 133-pounder Gary Steen are entering the transfer portal, according to a report by Justin Basch.

Facundo was 1-0 in duals and 5-0 overall this season. After going 19-6 and qualifying for the NCAA Championships as a redshirt freshman in 2023, he did not compete in 2024, instead taking an Olympic redshirt.

Steen was 3-3 in 2025. The Nittany Lions’ primary starter at 125 pounds in 2023, he came into the season with 12-18 career record.

Penn State wrestling will resume action at the 2025 NCAA Championships when the second round begins at 7 p.m. Follow along with all the results live at Basic Blues Nation.
