Penn State wrestling pushed the team’s dual win streak to 54 after its win against Rutgers on Monday at the BJC. The Nittany Lions have been getting consistent production from Beau Bartlett at 141 pounds, and now the senior has claimed another honor after a successful weekend winning Big Ten Wrestler of the Week.

Bartlett wins Big Ten Wrestler of the Week

Beau Bartlett was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week for the week ending on February 12th. This is the 2nd honor of the season for Bartlett and the third of the year for Penn State wrestling. The senior went 2-0 this past weekend to keep his undefeated record intact.

Bartlett dominated No. 2 Real Woods 7-2 on Friday night at Iowa in what many thought could be a future Big Ten and NCAA Tournament final. He then followed it up with a 4-1 win over Max Hermes of Rutgers on Monday in the BJC Dual.

Looking towards the Postseason

Beau Bartlett is now the favorite to win the national championship at 141 pounds. He beat No. 2 Real Woods and No. 3 Jesse Mendez in back-to-back weeks. The senior holds a 16-0 record with a 43.75% bonus percentage. No other wrestler in the country has less than two losses.

Bartlett’s next scheduled match will be against No. 7 Brock Hardy of Nebraska on Sunday. It will be interesting to see whether he is rested by head coach Cael Sanderson. Bartlett is one of the few wrestlers in the lineup who hasn’t been rested for a Big Ten dual this season.

There is some strategy to keeping him out of the lineup as well. Bartlett most likely has clinched the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, so while he would be favored to take down Hardy on Sunday, it is still a risk that doesn’t necessarily need to be taken.

The Penn State-Nebraska dual is scheduled for this Sunday, February 18th, at 4 pm ET and will air on the Big Ten Network.
