Attending Penn State football games as a fan is one thing. However, attending a Penn State game as a recruit with the potential of being part of the team in the future is a whole other experience. There’s where Nittany Lion target in the 2027 recruiting class Lucas Rhoa will find himself this weekend as he is slated to be in Happy Valley for the Illinois game.

Lucas Rhoa is a top-50 prospect in the 2027 recruiting class. He’s from Rancho Cucamonga (California) but has recently explained to Blue White Illustrated that he has family ties to central PA. Rhoa has been evaluated by On3 where they rank him as the No. 3 interior offensive lineman in his class and the No. 10 player in California (No. 49 nationally).

Rhoa has only taken one unofficial visit during his recruitment which was to Penn State on March 29. However, he is slated to return this weekend. He explained to BWI where his Penn State football ties come from.

“My dad’s family is from Central, PA,” Rhoa told Ryan Snyder. “My dad went to Penn State as did my uncles, aunts, and cousins.I have been watching and attending Penn State games for as long as I can remember.”

He certainly picked a great game to take a visit for. Lucas Rhoa will get a chance to visit State College during the fall before the weather turns cold. But he will also be in store for a great matchup between No. 19 Illinois and No. 9 Penn State.

Both teams enter this game undefeated and a player to keep an eye on is Illinois QB Luke Altmyer. He is someone who has caught the attention of head coach James Franklin.

“I think the biggest difference is the quarterback,” Franklin said on Monday. I think he’s got 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He’s one of the more improved players in college football. So, I think that’s the big story…”
