The Penn State football team has produced several talented tight ends over the past decade. But no one has had the season that Tyler Warren has had through six games for the Nittany Lions. After his monster performance on Saturday at USC, he is now starting to receive Heisman Trophy considerations.
Tyler Warren racked up 17 catches for 224 yards and one touchdown against USC this past weekend. His historic performance has caught the eyes of many, including ESPN’s own Kirk Herbstreit. But now even the Heisman Trophy poll put together by On3 has ranked Warren after his performance.
The top 10 candidates included:
- Ashton Jeanty
- Travis Hunter
- Cam Ward
- Dillon Gabriel
- Diego Pavia
- Kurtis Rourke
- Garrett Nussmier
- Jalen Milroe
- Jeremiah Smith
- Tyler Warren

While some might think the play calling from Andy Kotelnicki is unconventional. Tyler Warren shared after the USC win how Kotelnicki stuck to his play call regardless of the score.
“We talked about one of our keys this week was playing to win and not being conservative,” Warren said. “And he told us as soon as we get across the 50 and get on that side of the field, he was going to call that. And we knew he wasn’t lying, and we were prepared to do it. And we practiced it a bunch of times. So, we heard the call and just executed the play.”
