Veteran Penn State defender to enter the transfer portal

One day after leaving the Penn State football program, safety Tyrece Mills is heading for the transfer portal.

Mills announced his intention Tuesday afternoon to Pete Nakos and On3. On Monday night, reports surfaced that Mills had left the Nittany Lions after three seasons, although his next steps were not clear.

The Philadelphia product transferred from Lackawanna Community College ahead of the 2020 season. Appearing in 13 of 16 games, Mills had 15 total tackles in 2024. He also had a game-ending interception in last month’s Fiesta Bowl.

Tyrece Mills is the eighth Nittany Lion to enter the transfer portal this winter. Junior cornerback Cam Miller is also expected to hit the portal, but has not yet made a public announcement.
