Tyler Warren has forced many people to get creative when describing his unique skillset on the gridiron. The star Penn State football tight end baffled college defensive coordinators all year long with his Swiss Army knife-like versatility within the Nittany Lions offense.
Now, Warren is evoking the same response within NFL organizations leading up to April’s Draft. Speaking to FOX NFL insider Jordan Schultz this week, one anonymous NFL executive used some colorful language to capture Warren’s impact on the field.
“He’s a nasty f—er, and he blocks his ass off; that’s what I love,” the executive said. “I haven’t seen a tight end run the seam as well as him since Gronk [Rob Gronkowski] came out. You can use him in the screen game. His catch radius is insane. He’s a true blue-chipper.”

Warren’s remarkable talents have him on a potential crash course with history this spring. Despite choosing to forgo the drills at this week’s Combine, the Nittany Lions star is still projected to be a top-10 pick in April’s NFL Draft. If that happens, it may be only the sixth time in the last two decades a tight end is selected before the first wide receiver comes off the board.
With teammate Abdul Carter viewed as a consensus top-five prospect, it could also be the first time in 25 years Penn State football has put multiple top-10 picks into a Draft class.
Of course, historic feats are nothing new for Tyler Warren. Becoming the first player in Penn State football history to catch more than 100 passes in a single season, Warren’s Mackey Award-winning 1,233 receiving yards last fall rank second in program history. The most productive in a long line of great Nittany Lion tight ends, Warren ranks fifth in school history for career receiving touchdowns (19), ninth in career receptions (153), and 14th in career receiving yards (1,839). His extraordinary stat line also features six rushing touchdowns and one passing score.
“Tyler Warren: big gangly kid from Virginia that we recruited as a basketball player and was committed to another school at quarterback, and he shows up here and will go down as one of the greatest tight ends in college football history,” James Franklin said in January.
“Pretty cool to watch his total development, graduate from Penn State, just get better. Should be the first tight end taken in the Draft. Just had a phenomenal experience. I’m proud of him because he’s up to, like, 27 words at Penn State. He hasn’t really said anything.”
