A pair of rising Penn State football defenders are facing drug paraphernalia and other charges stemming from an incident that occurred earlier this summer.Â
Reported by WTAJ (Altoona) on Friday evening, sophomore safety Dejuan Lane and redshirt freshman Kenny Woseley have been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia following an incident at their on-campus apartment on the night of July 28, three days before the start of the Nittany Lions’ training camp.Â
University police investigated the smell of marijuana coming from the defenders’ apartment, ultimately finding traces of the substance in the trash and in vape pens. Both defenders are also facing charges of disorderly conduct. Woseley has an additional count for purchasing alcohol by a minor. Â
The Nittany Lions waived their preliminary hearings on August 14. They will appear in court again on August 27. Penn State athletics is aware of the situation.Â
Woseley appeared in four games as a true freshman, making five tackles. Lane burned his redshirt last fall, appearing in every contest for the Blue and White. He recorded 14 tackles and an interception. The sophomore is one of several rising safeties competing for a starting role alongside Zakee Wheatley.Â
“There’s a battle, right?” James Franklin said earlier this month. “You’ve got [King] Mack, you’ve got [Dejuan] Lane, you’ve got [Antoine] Belgrave-Shorter, and you’ve got [Vaboue] Toure, that are really battling for not only that other starter, but also who the third safety is going to be, who the fourth safety is going to be and who the fifth safety is going to be.”
