Since March 25, Penn State football has added six defenders to its 2026 recruiting class. This week, the Nittany Lions are closing in on one of the top prospects in the entire cycle.

On Wednesday, consensus four-star New Jersey edge rusher Luke Wafle included Penn State among the four finalists for his commitment. Ohio State, Texas, and USC also made the cut for the Hun School standout.

As a junior, Wafle posted 53 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, eight sacks, and eight quarterback hurries. He is the No. 14 prospect and fourth-ranked edge in the cycle, according to On3.

As it stands now, the Nittany Lions are viewed by many as having the inside track for Wafle’s pledge. Wafle’s older brother, Owen, transferred into the Penn State football program from Michigan this offseason. The Wafle brothers would potentially have three seasons together along the Nittany Lion defensive front.

Wafle kicks off his summer of official visits this weekend with a trip to Florida. He then travels to Columbus at the end of May before returning to Happy Valley on June 6. The trip will be his third to Penn State in two months, after visiting with James Franklin and the Nittany Lions staff twice in April. Official visits to USC (June 13) and Texas (June 20) will round out the slate for the prospective five-star prospect.

Four-star Daniel Jennings is Penn State’s only commitment at edge in 2026.
