Entering the summer, Penn State football had one five-star commit in the class of 2027. Now, the Nittany Lions will head into the fall with a second five-star among their ranks.
Last week, Appoquinimink (DE) offensive lineman Layton von Brandt earned his fifth star in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He also moved up from No. 63 to No. 28 in the 2027 rankings.
Von Brandt, who received an invitation to the Under Armour All-America Game earlier this month, attributes his recent success to his efforts in the weight room and at the training table this summer.
“Focused in on diet and strength these last few weeks before my junior season with [Appoquinimink Football],” he wrote on social media. “The works just starting.”
In April, On3 made McKeesport (PA) running back Kemon Spell the first 2027 Nittany Lion commit to reach five-star status. Spell and von Brandt will likely soon be joined by Seton LaSalle (PA) wide receiver Khalil Taylor, who is ranked No. 32 nationally per On3.
Penn State has the No. 2 class in the 2027 rankings, according to 247Sports.
