HIGHLIGHTS: Penn State football defeats Bowling Green 34-27

Penn State football escaped a near upset from Bowling Green after a strong performance from Tyler Warren, Nick Singleton, and shutdown defense in the 2nd half.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State football team has opened the 2024 season with a 2-0 start to the season with a victory against Bowling Green 34-27. Let’s review how each scoring drive unfolded in Happy Valley and how the Nittany Lions and Falcons got to today’s final score.

It didn’t take long for Bowling Green to get on the board. The Falcons came out with no fear driving 75 yards down the field where quarterback Connor Bazelak found Hrold Fannin Jr on a 6-yard touchdown catch.

Penn State took the blow seriously as Drew Allar drove the Nittany Lions back down the field to respond with a touchdown. Allar capped off the drive with a five-yard touchdown run.

Connor Bazelak continued to shred the Nittany Lions in his second possession. But the Nittany Lions were able to hold the Falcons to a field goal that was connected by Jackson Kleather.

The Falcons forced the Penn State football offense to punt the ball. Then, the offense went back to work where Bazelak connected with WR Malcolm Johnson Jr. on a 15-yard strike.

Drew Allar led a response drive for Penn State on offense where he found WR Omari Evans on a 29-yard touchdown pass with 11:48 remaining in the 2nd quarter.

After forcing the Falcons into a turnover on downs Penn State was led by Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen down the field. Which led to a Sander Sahaydak 43-yard field goal.

Bazelak and the Falcons continued to give Tom Allen’s defense a fit when the offensive line broke up a hole that led to a 41-yard touchdown run by Jamal Johnson.

A promising drive before halftime was cut short when Drew Allar was sacked on third down which led to Sahaydak’s 2nd field goal of the game from 28 yards out.

After the two teams traded punts to open the second half, Drew Allar found his favorite target of the day on multiple receptions from Tyler Warren. Which later led to a 14-yard touchdown pass from Allar to Nick Singleton.

Back-to-back weeks where running back Nick Singleton was able to go over 100 yards. He scored late in the 4th quarter following an interception by Zakee Wheatley. Singleton’s long TD run was from 41 yards out.

With 47 seconds left in the game the Falcons connected on a late field goal from 42 yards out. But after a failed onside kick attempt, the Nittany Lions were able to run out the final seconds of the game to escape an upset.
