Saquon Barkley is experiencing a renaissance in Philadelphia, shattering nearly all his previous career-high marks in a historic first season with the Eagles. Now, the former Penn State football star is starting to earn recognition for what has been one of the best years a running back has ever produced in the NFL.

This week, Barkley won the league MVP during the NFL on FOX’s 2024 awards. He was also awarded the Offensive Player of the Year Award by the Sporting News.

The former Nittany Lion has 14 100-plus yard performances this year, rushing for 2,447 yards and 18 touchdowns throughout the regular and postseason. He became just the ninth running back in NFL history to run for over 2,000 yards in a season.

On Thursday night, Barkley will look to become the first running back since 2012 to win the Associated Press NFL MVP honors. Three days later, he’ll compete for his first championship ring as the Eagles battle the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

“Well, I think it’s a couple of things, right? It’s an example of: he’s at a really good place, really well-run organization, arguably the best o-line coach in the NFL, behind arguably one of the best offensive lines,” Penn State football coach James Franklin said of Barkley’s play in November. “And we all knew, right, that, given the opportunity and put in a favorable situation, he’d have a chance to maximize it.”
