In June, we learned that Penn State football would be without Max Granville for a prolonged period after the redshirt freshman edge rusher suffered a long-term injury. Expected to be a prominent piece of the defensive rotation in 2025, the loss was notable as the Nittany Lions headed into summer workouts.
This week, we’re hearing from Granville for the first time since the news of his injury broke. The Sugar Land, Texas, native took to social media on Thursday, promising Penn State fans a speedy recovery.
Granville also referenced Psalm 119:71, which reads, “It is good for me that I was humbled, so that I might learn your statutes.”

Granville appeared in seven games as a true freshman last fall, a year in which he reclassified from the 2025 recruiting cycle and enrolled early. He recorded one tackle and one pass breakup.
With a young defensive line room behind veterans Dani Dennis-Sutton and Zuriah Fisher, the Nittany Lions were looking to Granville to become an early contributor this season.
“He was a young player, but by losing him we just got a little bit younger too,” James Franklin said last month. “You know, it is what it is at this point. In some ways, the earlier you find out, the better. You get going on trying to speed up the maturation process of the other guys.”
Penn State football returns to action in the season opener against Nevada on August 30.
