Finding an elite quarterback on the recruiting trail is a top priority for each college football team. It has felt that the Penn State football team has swung big and missed on some top prospects. 2025 recruiting class member and in-state prospect Matt Zollers committed to Missouri and 2026 recruiting class QB Dia Bell recently committed to Texas, as well as Brady Hart making his pledge to Michigan. However, according to multiple insiders, the Nittany Lions are the favorite to land Troy Huhn a top-10 quarterback in the 2026 cycle.
Penn State football will rely on Bekkem Kritza as the quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class. But the 2026 recruiting class needs a signal caller to pair with lone commit Messiah Mickens. Now, it appears that the Nittany Lions are close to sealing the deal with Troy Huhn.
Chad Simmons, Steve Wiltfong, and Sean Fitz of On3 have placed RPM predictions for the Penn State football team to secure a commitment from Huhn.
Troy Huhn stands at 6-3 195 pounds and is from San Marcos (California). At one point it seemed that Texas was the team to beat for one of the best quarterbacks in the 2026 cycle. However, after the Longhorns took Dia Bell, Huhn was forced to continue his search for his college home. He was in Happy Valley on June 19, and James Franklin was able to help sell the dream of playing for Penn State.
According to On3, Huhn is the No. 6 quarterback in the 2026 class. He ranks as the No. 6 player in California and is a top-60 prospect in the country. The Nittany Lions have needed a splash landing in the quarterback market and they are now on the verge of doing just that.

The Nittany Lions were one of the hottest teams in the country over the past weekend. Landing three commits in the 2025 recruiting class all in areas of need. Things kicked off on Saturday when four-star running back Jabree Wallace Coleman from Philadephia. Then, on Sunday Penn State added three-star safety Braswell Thomas and four-star edge Cortez Harris.
While the weekend was successful, the Nittany Lions also suffered two decommitments. One from running back Alvin Henderson who flipped to Auburn. The other was linebacker DJ McClary who flipped his commitment to Rutgers.
