Penn State football is hosting a top transfer portal linebacker prospect with bloodlines to the Nittany Lions program this week.

Reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports on Tuesday, former Rutgers standout linebacker Mohamed Toure is currently visiting Happy Valley.

Toure’s brother, Vaboue, is a redshirt freshman safety with the Nittany Lions.

Toure is a two-time team captain with the Scarlet Knights. Named to the Butkus Award watch list last summer, the sixth-year defender missed the entire 2024 season with an injury.

In 2023, Toure led Rutgers with 9.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks and was second on the team with 93 tackles. Ranked seventh in the conference in tackles per game, Toure was voted an honorable mention to the All-Big Ten team by the coaches and media.

With one season of eligibility remaining, Toure is the No. 2 available linebacker in the transfer portal, according to On3.

Penn State football will also host nation’s top linebacker transfer this week

Following Saturday’s Blue-White Game, James Franklin didn’t hide the Nittany Lions’ intention to pursue top linebacker talent from the portal.

“I think we’re in good shape, but there’s some concerns there,” he said. “You know, we lost a guy that we didn’t anticipate losing [Ta’Mere Robinson]. As you guys know, we’re not a big portal team, but we’re going to have to address some issues. So, if there is a linebacker out there that wants to come and be a part of our program and play for LBU, the most historic linebacker program in the history of college football, there’s an opportunity here to join the room and compete. So we will look at that.

“I think we got enough in the room, but to get through an entire season, if we get some injuries, it could get challenging. So, we’re going to look at the portal and see if we can find a solution. As you guys know, more times than not, we’d like it to be somebody that is connected to us and that we know, because we got a really good locker room. And I will make sure that we’re bringing the right people in our locker room. We’re very protective of that.”

This week, the program is showing that those words were not hyperbolic. In addition to Toure, the Nittany Lions are also expected to host the top available transfer linebacker, Amare Campbell, this weekend.

Penn State football currently has 10 linebackers on the roster coming out of the spring, including returning starters Dom DeLuca and Tony Rojas. The Nittany Lions will add four-star signee Cam Smith this summer.
