As Penn State football is gearing up for a trip to Indianapolis and the Big Ten Championship this weekend, the Nittany Lions are now expected to lose a depth piece from their tight end room.
On Monday morning, On3’s Pete Nakos reports that redshirt sophomore tight end Jerry Cross is planning to enter the transfer portal. The announcement comes from Noah Reisenfeld, who represents Cross.
A one-time blue chip recruit, Cross’s Penn State football career never manifested on the field. He appeared in seven total games for the Nittany Lions, including two this fall, but has yet to record a reception in his college career.
Cross was a four-star prospect and the No. 9 tight end in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to 247Sports. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Earlier this fall, James Franklin and Penn State football also lost redshirt senior receiver Feyisayo Oluleye to the transfer portal. Oluleye left the program in October.
The NCAA transfer portal officially opens for the winter window next Monday, December 9.
