Less than a week after losing running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider to Notre Dame, Penn State football is filling its staff vacancy with a former in-state head coach. On Friday, multiple sources are reporting that the Nittany Lions are set to hire former Temple head coach Stan Drayton to fill Seider’s position.

A relatively short-lived and high-profile search, Drayton was among the early logical candidates to fill the role. He emerged as the top candidate for James Franklin and the Nittany Lions publicly over the last 36 hours.

Drayton brings 31 years of coaching experience to Happy Valley, the last three as a head coach. Although he went 9-25 with the Owls, the Cleveland, Ohio, native is touted as one of the most respected position coaches in the country. He has stops at multiple power conference programs, including Texas, Ohio State, Florida, and Tennessee.

As Penn State football looks to get over the hump and capture a national championship, Drayton will bring multiple title rings to State College. He was a member of the Ohio State staff that won the 2014 College Football Playoff Championship. He was also on staff at Florida with Phil Trautwein in 2006 for the Gators’ BCS National Championship.
