Penn State football appears to be getting closer to making a major addition from the transfer portal market. On Thursday afternoon, 247Sports Syracuse insider Michael McAllister entered a new prediction for the Nittany Lions to land former Orange wide receiver Trebor Pena.

It’s been well documented that the Nittany Lions have actively pursued Pena since he entered the transfer portal on April 15. Penn State was seemingly the team to beat after hosting the second-team All-ACC selection in Happy Valley last Friday. However, that trend was thrown into question after Pena reportedly set up visits with Miami, USC, and UCLA this week.

Pena has 109 receptions for 1,212 yards and 10 touchdowns over his four-year Syracuse career. He’s also fourth among active FBS players with a career kick return average of 27 yards. The Ocean Township, New Jersey, product broke out for the Orange last fall, catching an ACC-best 84 passes for 941 yards and nine scores.

For the last week and a half, Pena has been universally viewed as one of the best available pass catchers on the spring transfer portal market. A limited supply of top-end receivers has amplified the competition for proven prospects nationwide. If James Franklin and the Nittany Lions can secure Pena, it would be another signal of the program and university’s alignment on and off the field heading into 2025.

Penn State football has 15 wide receivers on its current roster. With the spring transfer portal window closing on Friday and the Blue-White Game set for Saturday afternoon, it’s possible that we could see the pieces come together – with or without Pena – in the coming days.
