Penn State football will need to supplement its staff heading into the summer months. First reported by John Brice of FootballScoop on Monday night, the Nittany Lions are losing assistant special teams coordinator Keith Bruno in the days following spring practice.

According to Brice’s report, Bruno is leaving the Nittany Lions staff to take a role outside of coaching. He has already been officially removed from the Penn State football directory.

James Franklin hired Bruno last January as a special teams analyst, replacing the vacancy made by Eric Raisbeck. Previously, Bruno worked on the staffs of Temple and Rutgers.

In one season under special teams coordinator Justin Lustig, Bruno helped guide Penn State football to be top 50 nationally in average kickoff return yardage, kickoff return defense, and field goal percentage. The Nittany Lions had three kicks blocked in 2024, one of only 47 teams with multiple kicks blocked on the year.

Per Brice’s report, Franklin and the Nittany Lions staff are already conducting interviews to fill the vacancy.
