Penn State football is starting the week down one commitment in the 2025 recruiting class. On Monday morning, the Nittany Lions lost four-star Miami Northwestern (Florida) safety Antonio Branch Jr., who flipped his pledge to Deion Sanders and Colorado.

Branch’s commitment flip was reported by On3’s Steve Wiltfong just before James Franklin stepped to the microphone for his weekly noon press conference. The decision comes after Branch took an official visit to Colorado this weekend.

“I would say it’s a good potential fit because he has an opportunity to start as a true freshman,” Branch’s mother, Trina, told Wiltfong. “Who wouldn’t want to be coached by Deion Sanders? Someone that played the same position Antonio is playing.”

Antonio Branch originally made his commitment to Penn State football on June 19. During his recruitment this summer, the four-star defensive back selected the Nittany Lions over Nebraska and Louisville.

Branch currently ranks as the No. 37 safety and No. 388 prospect overall in the 2025 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

The Nittany Lions still hold commitments from defensive backs Daryus Dixson, Jahmir Joseph, Xxavier Thomas, and two-way athlete Thomas Braswell in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Prior to Branch’s commitment, Penn State football had the No. 16 class in the country.
