Although it’s only May, Penn State football is already widely viewed as one of the top teams in the country heading into the 2025 season. After making the Big Ten Championship and advancing to the College Football Playoff Semifinals in 2024, the Nittany Lions return a roster of star veterans and have supplemented with talent at key positions through the transfer portal.

Now, we’re getting one of our first looks at how the Nittany Lions’ loaded roster could translate into on-field success. This week, early regular season win totals for the Big Ten were released, courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook. Penn State finds itself tied with Ohio State and Oregon at the top of the conference. Each program is projected to win 10.5 games.

In terms of the conference’s top prize, FanDuel gives Penn State the second-best odds to win the Big Ten title at +240. The Buckeyes are the current favorites at +210, while the Ducks have +280 odds of repeating as conference champions.

The Nittany Lions are tied with Oregon for the third-best odds to win the national title at +800. Texas and Ohio State lead the way at +600, while Georgia trails closely behind at +700.

Penn State football 2025 regular season schedule

Penn State football will begin its quest to return to the College Football Playoff in 107 days, kicking off the regular season against Nevada on August 30. The 2025 calendar lacks an anticipated out-of-conference matchup like in recent years with Auburn and West Virginia. However, the Nittany Lions do have one of the year’s marquee games in the first month of the season, hosting Oregon on September 27.

Overall, Penn State will face five teams currently projected to have winning records in the conference slate. Outside of Oregon, November 1’s matchup with Ohio State is already viewed as a championship-defining contest. Other notable games include Iowa on October 18, Indiana on November 8, and Nebraska on November 22.

The Nittany Lions have won at least 10 regular season games each season since 2022.
