Khalil Taylor made headlines in March when he announced his commitment to Penn State football. Now, the standout 2027 wide receiver is making waves once again, announcing his transfer from Western Pennsylvania’s Seton LaSalle High School to Pine-Richland ahead of his junior season.
Taylor’s decision was first reported by Mike White of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The move comes one week before the heat acclimation practice period begins for high school teams in Pennsylvania. Taylor still needs to have the transfer approved by the WPIAL to be eligible for the 2025 regular season.
Even if that approval occurs, the Penn State pledge would likely be ineligible for the postseason in accordance with PIAA’s policy for transfers that occur after a player’s sophomore year. Taylor, whose father already lived in the Pine-Richland School District, says the move was prompted by the murder of his cousin near his current home earlier in July.
Transfer is a notable move for elite Penn State commit
At Seton LaSalle, Taylor quickly became one of the top wide receivers in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Rivals/On3 currently ranks the Nittany Lion commit as the No. 7 prospect at the position and the No. 32 player in the class. The move will give the potential five-star recruit a bump up in competition, from Class 2A to Class 5A, where Pine-Richland won the WPIAL title last fall.
Taylor is one of three early commitments for Penn State football in 2027, all of which rank inside the top 32 prospects in the class. With all three pledges either achieving or pushing for five-star status, the class, which is ranked No. 2 nationally, is already shaping up to be perhaps the best that James Franklin has compiled since arriving in Happy Valley 12 years ago.
