Penn State football is one day away from the official start of spring practice. Over the weekend, we learned more details about the Nittany Lions’ final practice of the spring, the annual Blue-White Game.

Announced on Saturday, kickoff for the spring game is set for 2 p.m. on April 26, with broadcast/streaming details to be determined. The Nittany Lions’ appearance in the College Football Playoff Semifinal pushed back the Blue-White Game from its typical mid-April date.

The date is not the only thing that will be different the next time we see Penn State football inside Beaver Stadium. With the longtime home of the Nittany Lions now fully under construction as part of the stadium’s $700 million renovation, fans should expect an unusual experience for the Blue-White Game.

“I’ll just give everyone a heads up. The spring game is going to be a little interesting,” athletic director Pat Kraft said in February. “And by interesting, I really don’t know what it’s going to look like. You know, we’re expanding the East side concourse, so we’re doubling the East main concourse, and I got to hit a mark of that Nevada game.

“So, you know, look for our information on how to get in the building, to get around the building. I understand, you know, you’ve got the best football team in the country, and everybody wants to get in, so we’re going to try. We’re going to really work on some things to figure out nuances to that. But the West [side] is going to be under construction and so it’s going to be a bit of an interesting Blue-White game, but we’ll make sure we get everyone information on how to enjoy it.”

On the field, there will likely be other adjustments to help compensate for the late end of the 2024 season.

“I don’t see us modifying spring ball a whole lot compared to what we have done in the past,” James Franklin said at the start of last month. “You know, I do see us making some modifications to the spring game.

“We will still have the spring game, because I know what it means to this community and the hotels and the bars and the restaurants and the tailgating and all of it. We’re working on that now. We may do some more events that we’re still working through.”
