ESPN personality Pat McAfee had some choice words for the Penn State football team and James Franklin ahead of the West Virginia game. But the Nittany Lions forced McAfee to switch his tone quickly. After the 34-12 victory over the Mountaineers McAfee changed his thoughts on Penn State and Drew Allar.
Pat McAfee took his show down to Morgantown, WV where the former Mountaineer had a live edition of the Pat McAfee Show. There he was able to rally the troops and speak about his confidence in West Virginia football.
During the week leading up to the game, James Franklin commented on what McAfee has brought to college football.
“First of all, I love Pat McAfee and his energy and enthusiasm for sports and specifically college football. I think he’s been good for college athletics and sports in general. I think it’s fun, right? You know, I think his ability to speak freely is unique and fun in a lot of ways.
“For us, it’s a fine line, right? I think it’s very similar to the old billboard material. I want to make sure that our guys and staff don’t say anything that creates billboard material. For some people that motivates them, right?”
To which McAfee stated.
“I don’t like anything about the answer he just gave,” McAfee said. “I appreciate how complimentary he was but boy, towards the tail end there it certainly sounds like have you heard what this guy is saying…?”
But after West Virginia suffered the loss to Penn State football McAfee changed his talk track. He shared his new thoughts on Twitter/X.
“This Penn State team’s the real deal.. there was a very long delay… but they’re really big and strong and fast.”

After the performance that Drew Allar put on display on Saturday, McAfee had high praise for the junior quarterback. He posted another tweet on Twitter / X about the Penn State football QB.
“Drew Allar might win the Heisman.. we have no idea.”
While Allar played extremely well on Saturday, it’s way too early for any Heisman trophy predictions. Allar finished the game with 211 passing yards and 3 touchdown passes. He also added 44 rushing yards as well.
