Ex-Penn State WR garnering national interest in the transfer portal

It’s been less than 72 hours since Omari Evans left the Penn State football program, but the former Nittany Lions wide receiver has already gained coast-to-coast attention in the transfer portal.

According to reporting from On3’s Hayes Fawcett this week, Evans is planning to make visits to several top-named programs across the country. So far, the junior is expected to see four schools: Tennessee, Texas Tech, Syracuse, and Washington.

A native Texan from Shoemaker High School in Killeen, Evans was a three-star prospect in the 2022 cycle. He saw the field early as a true freshman, playing in all 13 games and snagging five receptions and one touchdown during the Nittany Lions’ Rose Bowl run.

Evans played in every game for James Franklin and the Nittany Lions this fall, making six starts. He caught five touchdowns in 2024, tied with Nicholas Singleton for the second most on the team. Evans finishes his Penn State football career with 30 receptions for 564 yards and seven scores.

The dust is finally starting to settle heading into the weekend after what was a busy week of roster churn. Penn State football saw both of its top receivers hit the portal, with Harrison Wallace III also looking for a new home for his final season of eligibility.

On Thursday morning, cornerback Cam Miller committed to Big Ten foe Rutgers. Miller is only the third Nittany Lion to announce a landing spot out of the portal.
