Penn State football is riding a wave of momentum on the field and the recruiting trail following the Nittany Lions’ 35-6 victory over Washington on Saturday night.

The commanding White Out win vaulted the Nittany Lions back into the top five of the national rankings Sunday, one week after falling at the hands of Ohio State.

Even before kickoff, Penn State was firing on all cylinders. The Nittany Lions picked up a commitment from a top 50 prospect in 2027, Appoquinimink (DE) offensive tackle Layton von Brandt, less than 90 minutes before the start of the game.

Saturday’s success is now reverberating into Sunday. Early Sunday morning, On3’s Steve Wiltfong logged a prediction for Coatesville Area (PA) five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller.

Like von Brandt, Hiller was a visitor for the White Out. It was his second straight game in Happy Valley and the third of the season.

And despite the chaos of a White Out crowd, von Brandt’s commitment did not go unnoticed.

A five-star in the 247Sports Composite rankings, Maxwell Hiller is the top in-state prospect, fourth-ranked offensive tackle, and the No. 29 player overall for the 2027 recruiting cycle. Hiller is the No. 2 recruit in Pennsylvania, the nation’s top interior offensive lineman, and the No. 39 player overall in the On3 Industry rankings.

While Penn State football is one of only a handful of programs with 2027 commitments, James Franklin is already laying the groundwork for an impressive class. The Nittany Lions’ first two pledges – von Brandt and Kemon Spell – are also top 100 prospects in the cycle.
