Each year in college football the Maxwell Award is presented to the best player in the nation. Headed into the 2023 season the Penn State football team is represented by star running back Nick Singleton as he was listed on the Maxwell Award watchlist on Monday morning. Last season, it was USC QB Caleb Williams who took home the Maxwell Award and the Heisman Trophy for the 2022 season. It is typical for the Heisman trophy winner to also take home the Maxwell Award, and currently, Nick Singleton sits at +5000 odds according to DraftKings Sportsbook to win the Heisman trophy this season.

Penn State football RB named to the Maxwell Award watch list

Nick Singleton was a highly recruited prospect in the 2022 recruiting class, he held a five-star ranking from 247sports and On3 coming out of high school. As he enrolled early before the 2022 season, the Penn State fan base had no idea his impact would be massive early in his career. He burst onto the scene with 1,061 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. His breakaway speed allows him to take any carry to the house.  Now, he has been mentioned with the best college football players in the nation, while being added to the Maxwell Award watch list.

Singleton has proven to be the real deal in his first season with Penn State and hopes to continue that success in 2023. He and his counterpart Kaytron Allen lead one of the most talented running back rooms in the country.

Nick Singleton has big expectations this fall

Now, that Singleton has proven that he can take over a game on a single touch, he needs to be consistent especially early in the 2023 season. As Drew Allar has massive expectations for Penn State this fall, he can ease into his career as a starter with Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen taking some of the pressure away from Allar’s high expectations. For a player that has already hit the 1,000-yard rushing mark during his freshman season, many wonder if Singleton can build on those numbers or if will he hit a sophomore slump this season. Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain when #10 turns the corner the opposing defense better have some serious speed to track him down.
