A second member of the 2025 class has been upgraded to five-star status this week, as new Penn State football enrollee Andrew Olesh is now the country’s top tight end.

After emerging from the Early National Signing Period with no five-star prospects in the 2025 recruiting class, Penn State football has now seen two of its newest Nittany Lions elevate to the elite status in as many days this week.

On Thursday, former Southern Lehigh (PA) tight end Andrew Olesh earned his fifth star in On3’s final rankings update for the 2025 cycle. Olesh moved up 14 slots in On3’s national player rankings, from No. 43 when he committed to Penn State football in December to No. 29. With the jump, the 6-5, 215-pound tight end becomes the top player at his position for the class.

Olesh becomes the second five-star prospect for Penn State football in the class after offensive lineman Malachi Goodman earned the bump in 247Sports’ final 2025 rankings released on Wednesday. Goodman, who 247Sports rates as the No. 19 overall recruit in the country, falls just outside five-star status in On3’s final rankings, sitting at No. 34 among all prospects.

Olesh was the last major push for the Nittany Lions in the class of 2025, flipping his commitment from Michigan and signing with Penn State on December 6, the final day of the Early National Signing Period. He arrived on campus this month as an early enrollee.

“If you’re a great tight end in the country, and specifically in the state of Pennsylvania, I don’t know how you couldn’t come here,” James Franklin said in November. “There’s just too much history, there’s too much data, and there’s too many things saying you don’t need to go anywhere else. You can stay at home and get everything you want in terms of your college career and also setting you up for your future.”

Andrew Olesh now joins what should be a loaded position room heading into 2025. Even with the loss of do-it-all star Tyler Warren, Penn State still maintains about as deep and talented of a tight end room as any unit in the program. In addition to veteran Khalil Dinkins, the Nittany Lions also have consensus four-star Andrew Rappleyea and five-star Luke Reynolds.

Penn State football bumped up one spot in the national rankings for 2025 following On3’s update, moving from No. 15 to No. 14.
