Nation’s top IOL high on Penn State football after sixth visit of 2024

Penn State football appears to be trending in the right direction with the country’s top interior offensive lineman after he made his sixth to Happy Valley this weekend.

James Franklin and Penn State football have seen early success with several of Pennsylvania’s elite prospects in upcoming recruiting cycles. Now, the Nittany Lions appear to be developing strong ties to another top recruit, 2027 Coatesville Area interior offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller.

Hiller attended the Nittany Lions’ 34-27 win over Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon. It was Hiller’s first gameday visit recorded by any of the major recruiting services since he earned an offer from Penn State football in May 2023. But the 6-5, 295-pound lineman is no stranger to Happy Valley; Saturday was Hiller’s sixth visit to State College this calendar year.

And, evidently, the Nittany Lions’ stock is on the rise.

“Everything about PSU is great, and it’s an amazing opportunity,” Hiller told Steve Wiltfong of On3 on Saturday.

Maxwell Hiller is currently the No. 1 interior offensive lineman in the 2027 recruiting cycle, according to On3’s Industry Rankings. He’s the No. 16 player in the country regardless of position.

Hiller is the second-ranked player in the commonwealth, only behind Penn State’s lone 2027 commitment, McKeesport running back Kemon Spell.

After landing Pennsylvania’s top prospect in each recruiting class since 2022, the Nittany Lions have so far struck out with the Keystone State’s top three recruits in the 2025 cycle. But James Franklin and his staff are taking clear steps to get ahead of the curve in the upcoming classes.

Penn State football has already landed the No. 1 and No. 3 in-state prospects in On3’s 2026 rankings, Harrisburg teammates Kevin Brown and Mesiah Mickens. Top-ranked Kemon Spell made the Nittany Lions one of three programs with commitments from 2027 prospects in August. And if he continues to trend in their direction, Maxwell Hiller could give the Nittany Lions a second top-20 recruit early in the 2027 recruiting cycle.
