Penn State football is coming off a massive recruiting week in Happy Valley. But of all the top prospects who made their way to State College to take in the Nittany Lions’ spring practice, perhaps none has more upside potential than the Hun School (NJ) standout defensive end Luke Wafle.
Wafle was in town on Saturday to visit with James Franklin, Jim Knowles, Deion Barnes, and the rest of the Nittany Lions defensive staff. The top recruit out of the Garden State for 2026, Wafle is the No. 5 edge rusher and the No. 19 player in the cycle, according to On3. He is a consensus four-star across all the major recruiting outlets.
Wafle will return to Happy Valley for an official visit on June 13. According to 247Sports, he also plans to visit Ohio State (May 30) and Texas (June 20) this summer.
The Nittany Lions were a strong contender for the elite edge before the winter. However, Penn State has even more to offer Wafle after signing his older brother, Owen, from the transfer portal in January. A defensive tackle at Michigan, the elder Wafle transferred in after just one season with the Wolverines.
The Wafle brothers would potentially have three seasons together on the Nittany Lions defensive front if they both end up in Happy Valley.
With nine commitments, Penn State football has the No. 8 class in On3’s 2026 recruiting cycle rankings.
