James Franklin is expected to lose one of the most valuable members of his assistant coaching staff to a fellow College Football Playoff contender. Per multiple reports Sunday morning, Penn State football running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider is set to leave the Nittany Lions for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel was the first to report that Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame were targeting Seider for its running backs coach vacancy. Matt Zenitz of 247Sports confirmed the report shortly thereafter, adding that Seider was expected to accept the offer.
Seider has been a member of the Penn State football program since 2018. He has elevated the ranks of James Franklin’s staff over the last six years, now serving as assistant head coach and co-offensive coordinator in addition to coaching the running backs.
