Tight end Tyler Warren is rising to national prominence in 2024, as the Penn State football star is making his case as one of the top players, regardless of position, in the entire country. The more the Nittany Lions offense continues to find new and exciting ways to get him the ball, the more momentum the discussion around Warren’s talents gains among the college football media.

And if you didn’t know about Tyler Warren before, you likely became extremely familiar with the senior tight end during his record-setting day against USC. Warren had 17 receptions for 224 yards, both program records for tight ends, with the former now second all-time in Penn State football history among all pass catchers. He also added a four-yard rush, a nine-yard pass, and some time under center.

Warren’s performance put him on the fringes of the midseason Heisman Trophy conversation. Whether or not he makes it to New York is still to be determined, but the Nittany Lion has caught the attention of one former Heisman winner.

Recapping Penn State’s overtime victory on his podcast The Triple Option, former Alabama running back and current FOX commentator Mark Ingram had effusive praise for the tight end’s performance.

“Tyler Warren, how many catches did he have? How many catches did Tyler Warren have? That boy was going crazy,” Ingram told cohosts Urban Meyer and Rob Stone. “Let’s see what Tyler Warren’s number was: 17 catches for 224. He is a beast. Tyler Warren, one of my favorite players in the country right now. Number 44 bulldog.”

James Franklin would certainly agree with Ingram’s assessment. The Nittany Lions head coach has publicly made the case for his tight end every chance he gets.

“I’ve been talking about him being the best tight end in college football, but the reality is he’s now part of a conversation as one of the best players in college football,” Franklin said following the USC game.

Tyler Warren currently leads Penn State with 40 catches for 513 yards and four touchdowns this season. His 40 receptions are more than the next three receivers combined. He also has five rushes for 38 yards and a score, and two pass completions for 26 yards and a touchdown this year.

This week, Warren was one of two Penn State football players named midseason All-Americans by AP. Warren was named to the first team while safety Jaylen Reed was voted to the second team.

Warren will have ample opportunity to showcase his skill set in the coming weeks. The Nittany Lions return from their bye this week with a primetime NBC-broadcasted matchup against Wisconsin, followed by a clash with No. 4 Ohio State.
