A one-time Penn State football commit is on the move after his freshman season at the college level. According to multiple reports, Rutgers offensive lineman Jaelyne Matthews has officially entered the transfer portal last week.
Matthews maintained his redshirt in his lone season with the Scarlet Knights. The former Toms River North (NJ) standout committed to Rutgers last June.
Previously, Matthews was the Nittany Lions’ first pledge in the 2025 recruiting cycle. He decommitted in September 2023 after eight months in Penn State’s recruiting class.
“This has been a difficult decision, as I have the utmost respect for the university, its coaches, and the entire Penn State community,” Matthews said then.
A 2025 Navy All-American, Matthews was the No. 52 offensive tackle and the No. 19 prospect from New Jersey in the 2025 cycle, according to 247Sports. While committed to the Nittany Lions, Matthews was touted as the Garden State’s top recruit.
Georgia, Miami, and Tennessee were also involved during his original recruitment.
