Former Penn State football wide receiver Julian Fleming was transported to the hospital late Friday night during an ATV accident that claimed the life of his girlfriend.

The incident was first reported by WBRE sports anchor Nick Zelaya on Saturday night. According to documents from the Pennsylvania State Police, the accident occurred in Bradford County in northeastern Pennsylvania. Fleming was driving an ATV when a deer jumped onto the road and collided with the vehicle.

The ATV’s passenger, Alyssa Boyd, who was Fleming’s girlfriend, sustained extensive injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Fleming suffered serious injuries and was taken by EMS to the hospital. According to the PSP, neither Fleming nor Boyd were wearing safety equipment.

Fleming caught 14 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown in his one season with Penn State football. The ex-Ohio State Buckeye and one-time five-star prospect agreed to an undrafted free agent deal with the Green Bay Packers last month but went unsigned after failing a physical due to hip and back injuries.
