Ex-Penn State defender commits to North Carolina

Another former Penn State football defensive lineman has found a home in Chapel Hill out of the transfer portal. On Thursday, ex-Nittany Lion defensive tackle Joseph Mupoyi signed with North Carolina, Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reports.

Mupoyi entered the transfer portal on Tuesday. A four-star edge prospect in the 2023 cycle, Mupoyi moved to the interior of the defensive line in Happy Valley. He appeared in two games last fall.

A native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mupoyi will have three years of eligibility remaining.

In March, veteran defensive end Smith Vilbert joined the Tar Heels after leaving the Nittany Lions program during winter workouts.

Penn State football spring transfer portal tracker

Six Nittany Lions have entered the portal over the last two weeks. The spring window officially closes on Friday, but schools will have 48 hours to process transfer portal requests.

Outgoing transfers

• JB Nelson, OL – Entered the transfer portal on April 14.
• Jon Mitchell, CB – Entered the transfer portal on April 16. Committed to Georgia Tech on April 18.
• Ta’Mere Robinson, LB – Entered the transfer portal on April 16. Committed to USC on April 21.
• Beckham Dee, LB – Entered the transfer portal on April 16.
• Joseph Mupoyi, DT – Entered the transfer portal on April 22. Committed to North Carolina on April 24.
• Chase Meyer, K – Entered the transfer portal on April 24.
