The first former member of the Penn State football program is off the board in the transfer portal. On Friday night, redshirt freshman cornerback Jon Mitchell announced his commitment to Georgia Tech via On3.
Mitchell was the second Nittany Lion to enter the transfer portal this week. He made five tackles in six appearances during his lone season in Happy Valley. From Mandarin High School near Jacksonville, Mitchell was the No. 62 prospect in the class of 2024.
The Yellow Jackets are also believed to be in the mix for former Penn State offensive lineman JB Nelson.

Mitchell was one of four Nittany Lions to enter the transfer portal this week. Redshirt sophomore linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson was the first to announce a visit out of the portal, traveling to USC on Friday.
Penn State football is still 11 players over the new 105-man roster limit imposed by the NCAA. However, with the Nittany Lions positioning to add former Syracuse wide receiver Trebor Pena, additional roster moves may be necessary.
