A week after leaving the Penn State football program, Notre Dame made the hiring of Ja’Juan Seider official. On Tuesday, the former Nittany Lions assistant was introduced as the Fighting Irish’s running backs coach.

“Ja’Juan is a great offensive mind,” Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman said. “He has coached multiple offensive positions, but his ability to recruit and develop high-level running backs is exceptional. His experience utilizing multiple running backs effectively within the offense and simultaneously turning them into NFL talent is one of several reasons why he is a great fit for our program.”

Seider will also carry the title of associate head coach, the same distinction he held with Penn State football since 2023.

Back in Happy Valley, the Nittany Lions are coming off arguably the program’s most successful year rushing the football in recent memory. Under Seider’s tutelage, Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen became the first set of teammates to each run for over 1,000 yards for the first time in Penn State football history.

“Ja’Juan Seider, after being with us for seven years, did a great job for us, has moved on,” James Franklin commented last week. “We wish him nothing but the best. Seven years. In some way, it’s a shame that seven years is a long time. But [he] gave our program and our community seven years and did a really good job for us. So we’re appreciative of that.”

Despite losing one of the longest-tenured coaches on his staff, Franklin didn’t miss a beat replacing Seider. On Friday, Penn State football hired former Temple head coach and longtime position coach Stan Drayton to lead the Nittany Lions running back room.
