While the Penn State football team has been recruiting at a high level over the past few weeks, it has felt as if something is missing. The elephant in the room for the Nittany Lions is the lack of wide receiver depth that has been added to the 2025 recruiting class. But that narrative started to shift on Friday night when Penn State secured a commitment from the No. 1 WR in Maryland, Jeff Exinor.
The 2025 recruiting class is stacked with talent on both sides. But before Friday, Penn State football had one lone wide receiver commit in Lyrick Samuel. Scouting director for On3 Charles Powers has shared praise for Samuel, but more talent is required for the Nittany Lions to be successful. On Friday, they took a step in the right direction when On3 announced that Jeff Exinor would make his commitment to Penn State.
He told On3, “I just felt like Penn State put me in a better position to achieve my dream of playing in the NFL.”
Penn State has been in the driver’s seat with the four-star wide receiver since early June. That’s when Brian Dohn (247Sports) and Sean Fitz (On3) predicted that Exinor would commit to the Nittany Lions. Those predictions were even more solidified on Thursday when Ryan Synder (On3) made his own prediction for Exinor to land in Happy Valley.
Exinor is a product of McDonogh School and stands at 6-2, 215 pounds. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Exinor is the No. 9 prospect in the state and the No. 52 wide receiver in the 2025 cycle (No. 349 nationally) and ranks as the No. 1 WR in Maryland.
With the addition of Exinor, the Nittany Lions hold the No. 13 recruiting class in 2025, according to On3. 247Sports, Penn State holds the No. 6 class in the 2025 cycle.

Is Penn State looking to add another wide receiver?
The other wide receiver that Penn State football fans await a decision on is Lex Cyrus. The No. 1 ranked wide receiver in PA in the 2025 recruiting class. Multiple insiders have projected Cyrus to land at Penn State, but he has yet to announce a commitment date.
Cyrus will choose between South Carolina and Penn State and is from Harrisburg (Pennsylvania). A four-star prospect who ranks as the No. 1 WR in PA according to On3. Cyrus also carries the ranking of a top-5 prospect in the Keystone State and a top-20 wide receiver in his class.
Soon the Nittany Lions could have three talent pass catches locked in for the 2025 recruiting class.
