The Penn State football team had one of the strongest recruiting months in the country this past June. Between the 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes, the Nittany Lions earned nine commitments. One of those commitments came from defensive end Max Granville. On Thursday, it was first reported by Blue White Illustrated that Granville has decided to reclassify from the 2025 recruiting class to the 2024 recruiting class.

The Nittany Lions had a special talent commit to the 2025 recruiting class on June 24. The day that four-star edge rusher Max Granville pledged to Penn State football. However, Penn State will not have to battle other programs until National Signing Day for Granville to sign his letter of intent.

Thursday, the Penn State football team announced that Max Granville has officially signed after deciding to reclassify to the 2024 recruiting class. According to On3, Granville will join the Nittany Lions next week for preseason camp. A massive addition to the roster for this fall, even if Granville doesn’t play a significant role this fall, he will still have the opportunity to learn from Abdul Carter and Dani Dennis-Sutton.

While the news about Granville came as a surprise, his family has been supportive of the decision. Ryan Snyder of Blue White Illustrated caught up with Max’s father, Billy Granville, to discuss the decision.

“This was always Max’s decision, but in terms of development, if the goal is to keep getting better, from my perspective, it was like a no-brainer.”

The 6-3 225-pound edge rusher from Sugar Land (Texas) recently spoke fondly of Deion Barnes and his coaching style.

“I want a coach who isn’t afraid to get after me when I need it,” Granville said. “That’s what I need to get better; coach Barnes is going to bring the best out of me.”
