The Penn State football faithful were pleased to see running back Nick Singleton break a long touchdown run against West Virginia. The junior RB had a 40-yard scamper against the Mountaineers, where he showed a great burst of speed. Singleton put the work in the weight room this offseason, and Nittany Lions strength and condition coach Chuck Losey has recognized Singleton for his efforts in the weight room.

According to Reel Analytics, Penn State football running back Nick Singleton was the fastest player in week one of college football. The AI-driven program can clock on-field speed from film footage. Singleton reached 21.8 MPH, according to Reel Analytics, on his 40-yard touchdown run against West Virginia early in the 3rd quarter.

While Singleton was consistent each game last season, he seemingly lacked the explosive plays just as the rest of the offense did in 2023. But his quick start to 2024 has encouraged many within the Nittany Lion community, including strength and conditioning coach Chuck Losey.

There was an obvious gap on the field against West Virginia and that was the condition of the team. Whether it was strength or speed, Penn State football showcased the hard work put in the weight room this offseason. Drew Allar and Nick Singleton may have shown the most progress in week one. That’s a credit to the program that Chuck Losey has put together in Happy Valley.

On Wednesday evening, Losey took to social media to share his thoughts on Singleton’s top speed. On Twitter / X Losey shared his praise.

“Almost a full MPH faster at nearly half the yarage than the rest. No surprise. Perfect example of the product matching the preparation. You get exactly what you earn.”

Singleton finished the game with 13 carries for 114 yards and 1 touchdown against West Virginia. He looks to carry that momentum into week 2 against Bowling Green on Saturday at noon ET on BTN.
