The Penn State football team looked to close June on a high note. After landing nine commitments this month alone on the final day, there was a possibility of adding another dynamic wide receiver in Corey Simms. However, the Nittany Lions were unable to secure the 2025 recruiting class member as he made his commitment to USC on Sunday.
Corey Simms from Saint Louis (Missouri) ranks as the No. 2 wide receiver in Missouri according to the On3 Industry Rankings. The only wide receiver in the state that ranks higher than Simms is Isaiah Mozee who is an Oregon commit. Simms is regarded as the No. 3 prospect in the state and the No. 45 WR (No. 293 nationally).
He took an official visit to Happy Valley on May 31. Following that trip, he went out west to visit USC before returning to his in-state school in Missouri. Ahead of his announcement, multiple RPMs were placed on Simms to land at USC, even On3’s VP Steve Wiltfong had an RPM prediction in for the Trojans to land Simms. On Sunday, he made his official commitment to play his college football for Lincoln Riley and USC.

As the Nittany Lions now look elsewhere for additional help at wide receiver there are a few names to be aware of. The first is Lex Cyrus who ranks as the No. 1 wide receiver in Pennsylvania in the 2025 cycle. Cryus holds multiple predictions to end up in Happy Valley, however, no commitment date has been set at this time.
Another wide receiver to know is Taz Williams who has recently stood out at a national camp this summer. A four-star prospect, Williams is rated as the No. 278 prospect nationally and the No. 37 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite Rankings for the 2025 recruiting cycle. On3’s Industry Rankings evaluate Williams as the No. 51 receiver in 2025, while Rivals has him as a top 25 pass catcher and a top 20 player in Texas for the class.
Finally, Matthew Outten is a name to be aware of with his commitment upcoming on July 1st. Brent Pry and Virginia Tech are making a late push but the Nittany Lions have a chance to land one of the most explosive players in Virginia in the 2025 cycle on Monday.
