After a quiet second week of the spring transfer portal window, Penn State football suffered its first loss on the defensive side of the ball Friday, losing redshirt junior defensive lineman Davon Townley. First reported by Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of 247Sports, the move marks the second time that the Nittany Lions defender has entered the transfer portal since arriving in Happy Valley. Townley saw limited playing time last fall, only seeing the field for 23 snaps in 2023.
Defense tackle Davon Townley enters portal for second time
According to the reporting of Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of 247Sports, Penn State defensive lineman Davon Townley entered the transfer portal Friday afternoon. A four-star recruit out of Minnesota in the 2021 cycle, Townley has played sparingly as a Nittany Lion, recording four total tackles in the last two seasons. Last fall, he played just 17 snaps after transitioning to the defensive interior after starting his career as an edge rusher.
Friday marks the second time that Davon Townley has entered the transfer portal, doing so in December 2022 as well. Townley became only the third Penn State football player to ever enter the transfer portal and return to the roster.

All told, it’s been a quiet spring transfer portal window for James Franklin and Penn State football. Friday’s loss of Davon Townley was the first attrition suffered by the Nittany Lions since the first two days of the spring window last week.
In terms of related portal movement, outgoing Penn State wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith committed to Auburn on Wednesday evening. Fellow ex-Nittany Lions receiver Malick Meiga has yet to officially announce any portal visits.
