The Penn State football team continues to work towards its collective goal to “dominate the state.” In other words, the Nittany Lions take pride in keeping the top talent in Pennsylvania in the state to play their college football. In the 2025 recruiting class specifically, Penn State has missed on several top prospects in the Keystone State. On Monday, Penn State missed again on the No. 1 TE in PA Andrew Olesh who announced his commitment to Michigan.

Andrew Olesh has moved to the No. 4 prospect in the state according to the On3 Industry Rankings. The four-star tight end ranks as the No. 3 tight end in the country (No. 67 overall.) He also serves as the No. 1 TE in PA in the 2025 recruiting class. Olesh attends Southern Lehigh High School (Pennsylvania) where he has played wide receiver during his football career. The reliable receiving threat will move to tight end at the next level according to recruiting experts.

Multiple predictions were placed by insiders at On3 and 247Sports for Olesh ending up in Ann Arbor playing for Michigan. On Monday, Olesh brought those predictions to reality after making his commitment official. His decision was first announced by Hayes Fawcett of On3.

The Penn State football team has had a challenging time keeping the top talent in Pennsylvania in the state for the 2025 recruiting class. Andrew Olesh’s decision to play for Michigan is another black mark on PSU’s resume this cycle. So far, the Nittany Lions’ top committed prospect in the Keystone State is linebacker Alex Tastch who ranks as No. 4 in the state according to On3.

Penn State is predicted to land wide receiver Lex Cyrus the No. 5 prospect in the state. They also hold commitments from Jabree Wallace-Coleman (No. 7 in PA,) Xxavier Thomas (No. 8 in PA,) Tiqwai Hayes (No. 15 in PA,) Dayshaun Burnett (No. 17 in PA,) and Brady O’Hara (No. 25 in PA.)

While the top four prospects will play college football elsewhere to start their college careers, the door isn’t shut forever. We’ve seen this offseason with players such as Julian Fleming and Nolan Rucci that a return home is possible via the transfer portal. But still, on paper, it’s a challenge when Penn State misses out on top talent in the state.
