The Penn State football team is loaded with proven talent going into the 2023 season. Players that have proven to not only be the best on the team but also the best players in the Big Ten conference and the country. There are three players on the roster that are projected first-round picks in the 2024 NFL draft next April, including PSU DE Chop Robinson. With as many talented players that the Nittany Lions have on their roster, it needs to lead to big results on the field this season.
Penn State Football has 5 of the top 20 players in the Big Ten
For the Penn State football team to have a successful season these five players need to stay healthy and play at a very high level in 2023. Recently, Blake Brockermeyer, Chris Hummer, and Robbie Weinstein of 247sports have ranked their top 20 college football players in the Big Ten before the 2023 season officially kicks off. According to these three college football analysts, Penn State has 5 players on their list. They include Olu Fashanu at No. 2, Kalen King at No. 4, Chop Robinson at No. 8, Nick Singleton at No. 12, and Abdul Carter at No. 14 in the conference.
Olu Fashanu sits behind Marvin Harrison Jr WR from Ohio State who was ranked as the best player in the conference according to 247sports. I honestly think this is a fair assessment of how much these 5 players have shown on the field. The three projected first-round picks are within the top 10, while the two sophomores who exploded onto the scene fall just out of the top 10.
The Nittany Lions could use a massive year from DE Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson transferred in from Maryland around this time last summer. During his first season with the Nittany Lions, he accounted for 26 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks. During the 2022 season, this was the first time that Chop Robinson saw significant playing time in his career. He didn’t get a full offseason with the Penn State staff before the 2022 season, but now he has. That alone will help Chop become even more effective on the field. The Nittany Lions will need a strong year from No. 44.
