Perhaps one of the most electrifying players in the Penn State football 2025 recruiting class isn’t the top-rated prospect. Instead, it happens to be a Penn State legacy commit. It should come as no surprise that LaVar Arrington II is a gifted athlete given who his father is. But, the future Nittany Lion is a special prospect according to his high school football head coach Dom Farrar.

LaVar Arrington II made literal fireworks with his commitment to the Penn State football team. His pledge to the Nittany Lions occurred on July 4. Although he is one of the latest additions to the 2025 recruiting class, it’s evident that he has a special future ahead of himself in Happy Valley.

Recently, his head coach at Charter Oak Dom Farrar discussed with Blue White Illustrated why Arrington is a special prospect.

“I’ve never seen an athlete in over 30 years be able to do what he does on the football field, especially on the defensive side of the field. Honestly, if we chose to, he’s a kid that could play every position on the field.”

Farrar’s comments must be music to defensive coordinator Tom Allen’s ears. Versatility has been on everyone’s mind since Micah Parsons transitioned from linebacker to defensive end during his NFL career. In 2024, we will see Abdul Carter make the same transition. But for Arrington, we will have to wait and see what position he starts once he enrolls. But one thing is clear, no position is impossible for him to play.

Where do the experts rank Arrington II?

Currently, LaVar Arrington II holds a three-star ranking across all major recruiting sites. Arrington attends Charter Oak (California) where he ranks as the No. 36 player in the state and the No. 42 linebacker nationally, according to On3.

But his commitment to Penn State football wasn’t a given. Although he is carrying on his father’s legacy, had serious interest from Tennessee, UCLA, and Oregon as additional competitors.

He and Randy Adrikia are the only two commitments that Penn State has gained in July. With 22 hard commits, the Nittany Lions hold the No. 17 recruiting class in 2025 according to On3.
