Last month, Penn State football secured a new commitment from three-star composite Ohio quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer. Initially, the fan reaction was somewhat negative, as the Nittany Lions opted for a three-star recruit instead of a more impressive four-star prospect.

However, similar to Drew Allar’s commitment (who was also a three-star when he first committed), this new addition to Penn State’s roster is gaining attention nationwide. It genuinely feels like only a matter of time before the Nittany Lions’ QB commit is upgraded to a four-star rating or even better.

Penn State football commit Ethan Grunkemeyer is turning heads nationally and should earn a fourth star upon re-evaluation.

Ethan Grunkemeyer is a strong-armed quarterback recruit from Ohio, similar to current sophomore quarterback Drew Allar, who is expected to become the Nittany Lions’ starting quarterback this fall against West Virginia. In fact, there are numerous similarities between Grunkemeyer and Allar, ranging from their home state to the quarterback coach they train with. These two prospects appear to be quite alike in many ways.

Despite his similarities to Drew Allar, Grunkemeyer is currently a three-star recruit in the 2024 class. However, just like Drew Allar, who committed to Penn State football as part of the 2022 recruiting class, Grunkemeyer was a three-star prospect when he initially announced his commitment in mid-May.

Since then, Grunkemeyer has gained national attention, earning a spot in the Elite 11 finals alongside some of the country’s top quarterback recruits. He is currently competing in Los Angeles, CA, against quarterbacks like Jadyn Davis (Michigan) and Air Noland (Ohio State). Interestingly, despite his three-star status, Grunkemeyer outperformed Jadyn Davis, the five-star quarterback commit for the Michigan Wolverines, in the most recent Elite 11 finals rankings released on Thursday night.

While there is still some time before National Signing Day, it is evident that this new Penn State football commit is poised to be a four-star prospect, or perhaps even better, by the end of the recruiting process.
